Learn to Row

10 Week Beginner Courses starting July 2012 – see below for more information, start dates and how to book!

Have you seen the rowing at the Olympics or the Boat Race on the TV? Have you thought that there is no way that you can do that kind of thing – that rowing is for really fit and tall people? Well think again…

Women's 8+ training on the Tyne early September 2011

Rowing is one of the most popular activities in the North East – did you know that we have the largest amount of people rowing in the UK outside of London! Rowing is an activity for everyone – for those people who want to go out and race and win and for those people who want to simply mess around on the river. It doesn’t matter what your age is – you’re never to old or young to learn to row.

At Tyne United Rowing Club, we offer you the chance to give rowing a go. The cost of the courses includes temporary membership of the club, use of the boats and all equipment, all coaching throughout the course, all insurances and annual membership of British Rowing. For more information on the Learn to Row Courses or to book onto one of the courses, please contact Richard Chapman – Community Coach

Tyne United Rowing Club, located next to Newburn Bridge (Gateshead side of River Tyne) [Google Maps] will be running courses throughout 2012. Please see below for details of our upcoming Spring courses, due to start July 2012.

Tyne United Rowing Club - boatsheds and clubhouse - Summer 2010

Courses are aimed at complete beginners so there is no prior experience needed in order to do the course! Courses are structured over 10 sessions, with the option of attending additional club indoor sessions. In weeks 1-4 we are based indoors learning the technique using the indoor rowing machines and our indoor rowing tank (see below!), so that once we get onto the water in week 5, you can pretty much already row! The latter 5 weeks of the course are aimed at developing technique that was learnt whilst on the indoor tank and applying this in the stable beginner boats on the water. During the final 2 weeks of the course, we intend to give you a taster of what it is like to row in a fine boat alongside other experienced club members, so to give you an all round taste of what rowing is all about here at Tyne United!

Our courses include 10 weekly coached sessions by our British Rowing qualified coach, temporary club membership, use of all equipment, boats and blades, all insurances, course handbook and annual membership of British Rowing.

Courses will be running on the following days/times.

Wednesday Evening (Juniors Only 13-18yrs) 17:30-19:30, starting 11th July, finishing 12th September.

Wednesday Daytime (Adults 18+ Only) 10:00-12:00, starting 11th July, finishing 12th September.
